About Cervello

The Naples, Italy, based Cervello intitally came to attention via the presence of guitarist Corrado Rustici, the younger brother of Osanna's highly-rated axe hero Danilo Rustici. Musically, too, there was a family resemblance between the two groups, although Cervello's own sense of self could certainly not be faulted. Their one and only album, 1973's Melos, was a vastly ambitious concept set based on Greek mythology, and thoroughly infused with the traditions of Mediterranean folk. The presence of four separate flautists in the line-up also brought a stunningly original dimension to the band's sound. Sadly, Melos was to be Cervello's sole release. They broke up in late 1973 and, by early the following year, Rustici had joined his brother in Osanna. He appeared on their fourth LP, Landscape of Life before moving on to Nova and, later, a solo career. ~ Dave Thompson
