Inspired by the strident and atmospheric work of acts such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Pixies, indie rock trio Basement Revolver craft both noisy and graceful shoegaze-esque tracks such as "Dancing" and "Knocking" from their 2018 LP, Heavy Eyes. Their affinity for the boundary-breaking noise rock of the '90s and the garage rock revival that swept through New York City in the early 2000s earned them a devoted following throughout their native Canada and the U.S. Comprising guitarist/vocalist Chrisy Hurn, bass guitarist Nimal Agalawatte, and drummer Brandon Munro, Basement Revolver formed in the city of Hamilton, Ontario in 2015, and came up with their name after spending lengthy periods of time in Hurn's basement apartment. A few months after forming, Basement Revolver had a couple of their own tracks under their belt and began performing on the local scene before putting out their first single, "Johnny," in 2016. The track met a positive response and was commended for Hurn's introspective and cathartic lyrics as well its brash yet accessible sound palette. The song also caught the attention of the U.K.-based Fear of Missing Out Records, who signed the band later that year. Basement Revolver then got to work recording their debut self-titled EP at their local studio and found themselves developing a grittier and heavy sound, while maintaining the warm sheen of "Johnny" across the entire release. They put the EP out in late 2016 and went on to promote the effort with shows throughout Canada and the U.S. in 2017. They also released their second EP, Agatha, that year, earning them an ever-burgeoning fan base on both sides of the Atlantic. Toward the end of 2017, they returned to their local studio to begin writing and recording their first full-length, Heavy Eyes, which saw release in August 2018. ~ Rob Wacey
