About B.R. Deodhar
Touted as the first music composer of Hindi film music and popularly known by the moniker "Professor", B.R. Deodhar started composing first as a theatrical artist an,d due to the early convergence of theater with the silent era of movies, Deodhar was easily absorbed by the film industry. Being the disciple of Pundit Vishnu Digambar Pulaskar, Deodhar was proficient in Hindustani classical music as well as Western music. He first started singing in the style of Abdul Karim Khan in the streets before coming in contact with Vishnu Pulaskar. As a reputed singer, music teacher, writer, and musicologist, he established a music school in Bombay in 1929. Between 1930 and 1943, B.R. Deodhar composed music for around ten films including Heer Ranjha, Sasi Punnu, Shikari, Patit Pavan, Zehre Ishq, Masterji, Madari, Mohan, and Neela.
