On the second instalment of Terror Jr’s Bop City series, the conceptual pop trio continue to toy with the contrast between bright, playful production and nihilistic lyrics. On the stripped-down but buoyant “Death Wish”, Lisa Vitale’s Auto-Tuned vocals sound sweet and coy while referencing Jim Jones’ cyanide Kool-Aid as well as Romeo and Juliet’s suicide pact. But the trio get real on the moody, climactic “Caramel”, a response to sociopolitical injustice with only finger snaps and gun-cocking sound effects as percussion.
