From the late ‘70s through to the mid-'80s, Madrid became a hotbed for the cultural and musical movement known as La Movida Madrileña. The city was thriving in the embrace of an underground art scene and Leño, led by prolific frontman Rosendo Mercado, fitted it like a glove. With killer riffs, epic solos, thick bass lines, combative percussion and intense vocals, the three-piece appealed to hard rock, progressive, metal and blues fans. Despite only releasing three albums, Leño's influence and place in Spanish music's counterculture cannot be underestimated.
