Fabio Mechetti

Conductor Fabio Mechetti has held important conducting posts in South America, North America, and Asia. In 1989, Mechetti landed his first permanent post as associate conductor of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra in New York. Mechetti was named the principal conductor of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur for the 2014-2015 season. In 2008, Mechetti was named conductor and artistic director of the newly formed Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra in Belo Horizonte. With that group, he has made several recordings, including a 2019 album devoted to the neglected Brazilian composer Alberto Nepomuceno. Mechetti and the Minas Gerais Philharmonic have continued to make recordings of neglected Brazilian repertory, including operatic preludes and overtures by 19th century opera composer Carlos Gomes in 2023.
