Parlaying influences as disparate as British electro-rock and global pop of the ‘60s into a unique sound that shaped Chinese music from the ‘90s onward, he helped to craft a globally aware, rhythmically complex flavour of Mandopop—attracting admirers as diverse as Faye Wong and Han Hong, Underground Baby and Wang Feng.
