Under the name Waxahatchee, Katie Crutchfield bares all, vividly detailing headaches and heartache via cathartic indie confessions. While her alias nods to her native Alabama, Crutchfield established Waxahatchee in 2010 as an outlet rooted in lo-fi rock. Her 2013 album, Cerulean Salt, solidified that sound with its raw, restless reflections. Over the years, however, she’s increasingly stripped away the fuzz, giving herself more space to rock out on 2017’s Out in the Storm and more freedom to embrace her Southern roots with a little extra jangle and twang on 2020’s Saint Cloud.
