Top Songs of 2023: Aotearoa New Zealand
Apple Music’s end-of-year charts are based on plays between 1 November 2022 and 31 October 2023. Aotearoa New Zealand music fans spent plenty of time listening to local favourites L.A.B in 2023, with their 2019 track “In the Air” proving, once again, to be a much-loved mainstay. Sydney-based Samoan artist JKING was another close-to-home favourite, thanks to his huge breakout single “Cinderella”. International collaborations were something of a trend in the charts throughout the year, led by the Dave and Central Cee collab “Sprinter” and “Rich Flex” from Drake and 21 Savage. And though it came out in 2018, listeners still can’t get enough of Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower”. It wasn’t all about hip-hop, though: Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus proved that pop fandom is stronger than ever, with “As It Was” and “Flowers” remaining high in the charts throughout the year.
