In the '80s, post-punk legends The Fall fused punk with krautrock and art rock with rockabilly. But in the next decade they really experimented with genre. As grunge swept America and Britpop ruled the U.K., Mark E. Smith instead toyed with techno and dabbled in drum 'n' bass, both alienating longtime fans and, unexpectedly, producing some of The Fall's most accessible material.
