Supergroove Essentials

They came from the Low Down Dirty Blues, but the band of that name was just the horny end of a rolling Kiwi rock juggernaut that ate up and spat out soul, funk and hip-hop as it gathered steam. singer/songwriter Karl Steven and bassist Joe Lonie had been honing their act since high school when rapper Che Fu joined to blitz the charts with “Here Comes the Supergroove” in '93. Their first album, Traction, found its rhythm at the dawning funk-metal frontier, launching a frenzied global road attack and eventually selling 5x Platinum. A recalibration to less brass and more rock shuffled the lineup and yielded Backspacer in '96, which added a sixth Top 10 single to the legacy before the band split in '97.
