Supergrass Essentials

Supergrass projected a youthful exuberance that to became synonymous with Britpop. Their debut single, 1994's "Caught by the Fuzz", carried a whiff of working-class punk rebellion, but their debut LP, '95's I Should Coco, owed more to the storytelling of The Kinks and mod stylings of The Jam; Supergrass mixed lyrical wit with a rock classicist's love of guitar-based songcraft. During the rest of the '90s and '00s, the band turned out straight-ahead rock with monstrous hooks that somehow didn't feel retro. In the face of declining fortunes, they broke up in 2010.
