Street Chant Essentials
Apple Music
Since forming in 2007, Street Chant have upheld New Zealand's proud tradition of chiming, immaculate indie pop. But while "Never" shows that the trio can buff their strummy pop songs to a high gleam just as well as their forebears, Street Chant don't stick to one template. Instead, they pick their favourite parts of '80s and '90s alt-rock and mash them together. The sunny melodies of "Pedestrian Support League" are pushed along by a Kim Deal-indebted bassline, while "Sink" finds them attacking their harmonies with garage-rock vigour. "The Password Is Password" shows that even their stripped-down ballads have momentum.
