Abu Othaina aka Shabjdeed is at the vanguard of Ramallah rap. A key figure in the Palestine underground hip-hop scene and a symbol of his region’s resistance, he’s blazed a trail since his debut album Carlo in 2017. Between a furious flow that fuels searing reflections on international relations and a powerfully alliterative lyrical approach, his style is a unique one. It’s augmented by the staccato trap beats of longtime producer Al Nather, with the brooding “Sindibad” and atmospheric “6Rns” as cases in point.
