Quincy Jones Essentials

Quincy Jones Essentials

One of the major architects of modern pop music, Quincy Jones came up in LA in the ’60s, first as a big-band jazz arranger and later composing orchestral film scores. Along the way, he produced albums for Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Miles Davis and other A-listers. This collection spotlights Jones’ own wide-ranging yet consistently brilliant performances: the bebop-inflected “Hard Sock Dance” and “Sermonette”; genre-defying pop-culture landmarks like “Soul Bossa Nova” and “Sanford and Son Theme (The Streetbeater)”; the Afro-jazz epic “Gula Matari”; and the cinematic funk of “Walking in Space” and “Stuff Like That”. Jones passed away in November 2024 at age 91.
