Prince Buster Essentials

Ska music wouldn't exist without Prince Buster, the brash, brilliant and astonishingly prolific singer/producer who popularised the genre's syncopated rhythm for the world. The former boxer created his own sound system and record store before branching into production. Starting in '62, the prolific Jamaican released more than 600 singles over the next eight years. Buster's tough but tongue-in-cheek attitude also informed the "rude boy" scene of the mid-'60s, proving a major influence on the British 2-Tone movement and third wave ska-punk scene of the '90s.
