Since 1991, UK IDM duo Plaid have kitted out knotty grooves with triplet patterns, acoustic sparkle and all manner of mechanical whirr. Their flickering rhythms are as inventive as any in electronic music, and their textures are unusually vivid—that goes equally for 1998's soulful Not for Threes, 1991's Latin-flavoured Mbuki Mvuki or 2011's dazzlingly digital Scintilli.
