While Pinchers is not the first singjay to record badman or raggamuffin tunes, he's the first to perfect the balance. During his mid-'80s ascent, it was rare to hear threatening lyrics coming from such a sweet voice, as Pinchers' sound was more readily associated with lovers rock and roots styles. “Bandelero”, his signature hit, is one of his many tunes that walk this line, while romantic songs like “Request to Denise” and the classic “Agony” show the versatility that made Pinchers a favourite at King Jammy's legendary studio sessions.
