Parquet Courts Essentials

If a band can be simultaneously tight and loose, urban and rural, Parquet Courts surely are. The New York group don't distance themselves from their Texas heritage, building splendidly rickety bridges between art-school post-punk and heartland indie rock. Twangy guitars spiral and scratch as bass and drums race like overly caffeinated commuters chasing the morning train. At the center, snapping this gloriously ramshackle mess into focus, are Andrew Savage and Austin Brown, a pair of singer/songwriters channelling the Big Apple's lineage of laconic alt-rockers, from Lou Reed to Tom Verlaine.
