The band's name may come from the 1989 Bob Dylan album, but don't go searching for his influence on their music. Oh Mercy is the vehicle for Alexander Gow, an Australian songwriter with a sweet voice and sharp writing ability. Debut album Great Barrier Grief was full of sparkling guitar pop that dwelled under the same roof as Crowded House, but 2012's Deep Heat found Gow pushing outside his safety zone to fine effect, writing in the third person for the first time while experimenting with glam on the title track and a distinctively Roxy Music feel on the sexy, sax-y “My Man”.
