Bangkok band My Life as Ali Thomas started out as a solo project by Kanyapak “Pie” Wuttara, who uploaded her first vintage, hazy songs online in 2013. She came up with the phrase—“Ali” is short for “alias” while “Thomas” means “twin” in Greek—as an altar ego she could escape into. Pie met guitarist Wipata “Rack” Lertpanya at a local bar in 2014, and they were soon joined by Wannaphong “Taw” Jangbumrung. Together, they fleshed out Pie’s enigmatic vision, building a heady, folk-rock sound filled with romantic tales of life and love.
