Muhal Richard Abrams' work rejoiced in the collaborative spirit of jazz music, and his strength as a musician comes through in his recordings as both a leader and a sideman. He adds a floral melodicism to the soul-jazz slink of Eddie Harris' “Flowers”, and matches the intense, abstract lines of Anthony Braxton on “37 - 79 - 64 (Opus)”. On Marion Brown's “Sweet Earth Flying (Pt. 5)”, meanwhile, his piano gets space for a contemplative solo turn.
