For Lorna Shore, the road of sonic excess leads to seriously powerful metal. The original quintet emerged from New Jersey’s vaunted metalcore scene in 2009. But after a series of lineup changes, including the addition of shredder Adam De Micco, they plunged into blackened deathcore. As they evolved, their third full-length, 2020’s Immortal, signalled the beginning of the group’s interest in symphonic metal’s heroic guitar runs and extravagant orchestration. The result is deathcore at its most cinematic, as if Lorna Shore are soundtracking the decisive battle between the forces of good and evil for humanity’s soul.
