Katy Steele’s longing voice and poignant songwriting made her catchy Perth quartet Little Birdy an instant success—and a fixture on triple j’s Hottest 100—in the mid-2000s. After the sensitive folk pop of 2004’s “Beautiful to Me”, Steele brandished more of a growl on tunes like 2006’s swaggering “Come On Come On”. She and the band also have good fun with covers, gamely tackling everything from Split Enz to Nancy Sinatra.
