Soul singer Lemar Obika is a Saturday-night talent alumnus who has carved out a rich career as a solo star. His purple patch off the back of his run on 2002’s Fame Academy helped Lemar achieve a string of UK Top 10 hits in the early part of the century, with modern soul classics like “50/50” and “Dance (With U)” elevated by his silky voice. He dabbled in exuberant pop like 2010’s “The Way Love Goes”, though Lemar looks most comfortable channelling the classic ’70s soul of heroes such as Al Green on numbers like “Tick Tock”, dressed to the nines as a ’50s Rat Pack idol.
