Lawrence English Essentials

The basis for much of Brisbane artist Lawrence English's sound art is field recordings, captured during his travels. At times, as on his 2015 release Viento, he leaves them to play out untouched. But just as frequently, he processes them so heavily that they become gorgeous washes of ambient noise, which he uses to create songs that are either enrapturing or terrifying. Whether released on his many albums or utilized in art installations, English's work is nothing short of revelatory.
