King Tubby played the mixing board the way Jimi Hendrix played guitar. When he was involved, you never knew where a song was heading next. "A Ruffer Version" opens with harsh barks, which last until Tubby uses studio wizardry to mimic the sound of thunder. "Declaration of Dub", more melodic, dances wistful ska guitar over a wobbly organ, then cuts both to reveal submerged, reverberating vocals.
