John Paul Young Essentials
Apple Music
Australians know him as Squeak or JPY, the pint-sized pop star who soundtracked '70s teenage girls' dreams. Young became the mouthpiece for Harry Vanda and George Young, formerly of '60s band The Easybeats, who penned and produced a string of catchy, quirky three-minute wonders for him, including “Yesterday's Hero” and “I Hate the Music”. But it was 1978's “Love Is in the Air”, a disco shuffle with an ascending melody, that became a global hit, gaining a second life as the theme song to Baz Luhrmann's film Strictly Ballroom and ensuring Young would be anything but “Yesterday's Hero”.
