Born in rural Jamaica, Jah9 is a product of the churchgoing family that raised her, the Rastafarian teachings she adopted, and the underground poetry scene where she first found her voice. Far from being a stale reiteration of reggae's past, her music exudes wisdom, commitment, and full-bodied soul. She calls her style “jazz on dub,” which is just another way of saying that she brings an agile and naturalistic flow to rhythms as thick and rich as the forests of her homeland.
