The ‘90s was an era of intense musical revolt. Dance music was being warped by The Chemical Brothers (who added funk and sirens), Underworld (grace and poetry) and Orbital (melodic bliss). Meanwhile, Radiohead and Manic Street Preachers explored hyper-literate rock—the latter's “Revol” has a crossword puzzle lyric—and Mogwai dropped words altogether, creating audible landscapes with just their guitars.
