The O'Jays' funky Philadelphia soul was an explosion of groovy ideas that a galaxy of stars have drawn from since. David Bowie followed the group's lead on the dirty funk of mid-'70s track “Fascination”, and the neo-soul cool of Maxwell's “Sumthin' Sumthin'” borrows heavily from their lush freak-outs. Even the digital grooves employed by The Black Eyed Peas on “Someday” carry some of the band's bouncy influence.
