Hoodoo Gurus dip their toes into the wildest, most hummable corners of rock's past and then stomp out their own path from there. They roared into the early '80s with the tribal thump and fuzzed-out guitars of “Leilani”, before “My Girl” soundtracked heartbreak with chiming harmonies and '60s jangle. Songwriter Dave Faulkner soon hit a purple patch with a series of careening tunes set to the band's combination of dazzling power pop and Nuggets-inspired garage grunt. The ebullient “What's My Scene”, the chant-along “I Want You Back” and the surf-rock kick of “Like Wow–Wipeout!” are a holy trinity of head-shaking abandon.
