

The great jazz flautist travelled extensively and brought the world back home to New York. Mann explored Afro-Cuban rhythms alongside conga giant Carlos "Patato" Valdes on the percussive "Todos Locos" in 1959, successfully integrated Middle Eastern instruments and melodies into jazz on 1967's ear-opening The Wailing Dervishes, and collaborated with electro-pop group Stereolab on a futuristic 1996 version of the bossa hit "One Note Samba".
