Heavy Metal in Korea

Korean heavy metal has its origins in the '80s, when the power ballads and wailing guitar solos of Boohwal and Sinawe inspired the country's nascent headbangers to tap into deeper emotions. Since then, niches like thrash and death metal have developed loyal followings, as bands like Crash and Black Hole mixed lyrics about Korean mythology and social issues with aggressive Westernised sounds.
