Hanni El Khatib Essentials

An American multi-instrumentalist of Palestinian and Filipino heritage, Hanni El Khatib wrangles a unique fusion of surf, punk, blues and gypsy-tinged folk. His homespun 2011 debut, Will the Guns Come Out, channelled The White Stripes' icky thump, while Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach produced 2013's more mature Head in the Dirt. The genre-crossed eccentric pushed himself further on 2015's Moonlight, with longer jams, a cleaner funk snap and even jubilant tickles of disco. No matter how polished he gets, though, El Khatib still regularly taps into the fuzz-kicked immediacy of his early days.
