Gina Jeffreys Essentials

For a stretch of the '90s, you could have been mistaken for thinking that Gina Jeffreys was the only female country singer in Australia. She won the coveted Golden Guitar Award three years in a row following her 1994 debut album, The Flame. The follow-up, 1996's Up Close, was more of a country-pop affair that topped the country charts and crossed over to Top 10 success on the mainstream charts. A relocation to Nashville in 2000 resulted in the sleeker-sounding Angel, while her winning cover of Radiohead's “Creep” in 2002 was—like the artist herself—a little bit country, a little bit rock 'n' roll.
