Funkoars Essentials

Any group that calls its second album The Greatest Hits either has a lot of self-confidence or a good sense of humour. This hip-hop crew has both. Emerging from the same Adelaide scene that spawned hip-hop heavyweights Hilltop Hoods, the Funkoars sound like an afternoon barbecue that's gotten out of hand. Against tweaked samples of psychedelic rock and soul, they overlay big beats and a rowdy rapping style that demands attention. Their 2013 song “Larry Emdur” is named after and aimed at a cheesy Australian TV personality, and includes a sample from Curb Your Enthusiasm. Let's call it couch-rap.
