Christophe Rousset Essentials

Few period instrumentalists have jumped into the Baroque style as thoroughly as French harpsichordist and conductor Christophe Rousset, whose repertoire includes spirited readings of classics by François Couperin, Jean-Baptiste Lully and more. The formation of his own ensemble in 1991 (Les Talens Lyriques) would give Rousset the right tools to delve deep into the ecstatic gestures and gripping counterpoint of Jean-Phillipe Rameau’s “Six concerts transcrits en sextuor”, and the freedom to explore the terrific large-scale works of lesser-known composers like Antonio Salieri and his opera Les Danaïdes.
