The hyperactive quartet Calibre 50 first catapulted themselves into the grim realities of Mexico's tough streets in 2010. As raw storytellers, they spin gritty corridos of drug-lord notoriety (“Javier el de los Llanos”) while bragging of debaucherous conquests (“Callejero y Mujeriego”). But the group can also humanely portray gut-wrenching tales of immigrants' hardships in the U.S. The tuba-charged balladry and accordion-driven melodies are delivered with blood-pumping assertiveness, building the perfect crime songs with a riotous flair.
