With records like 2002’s Dal Lofai Al Cisei, Cristian Bugatti—Bugo to fans—established his knack for rugged, folk-indebted alt-rock. It’s a fitting sonic palette for his tongue-in-cheek choruses, but there’s much more to this idiosyncratic singer-songwriter. Acoustic, harmonica-laced ballad “Che Diritti Ho Su Di Te” and string-tinged rocker “Comunque Io Voglio Te” prove Bugo’s songcraft can be bravely honest and emotive. “Love Boat” embraces synth-pop rich in metaphor, while his 2020 release titled with his full name features poignant alt-pop collabs with Morgan and Ermal Meta.
