B.B. King hit his stride during the ‘60s, sweetening his stately blues with strings—as in his signature song, "The Thrill Is Gone”—and brass. He was also quick to absorb the rhythmic influence of soul, particularly on the funky “Heartbreaker”. But the core of his restrained sound is his rueful holler and the keening, expressive lament of his beloved guitar, Lucille.
