In 2011, the members of Chilean indie rock act Fother Muckers decided that the band had run its course and sought to tell a different story under a new name. Regrouping as Ases Falsos—inspired by an imaginary group referenced in one of Fother Muckers’ songs—they set about smoothing off the rougher edges of a sound that had gained serious traction on the Santiago club circuit. The band quickly took on a more danceable sensibility, with bold synth-pop, R&B and funk influences. Yet they retain the vital essence of their lo-fi, folk and jangly rock roots.
