Singer/songwriter Alice Merton grew up all over the world, an experience that has influenced her expansive, thoughtful pop. In late 2016, she released her debut single, “No Roots”, a chugging rumination on how her “home was never on the ground”. That nomadic spirit also fuelled the taut 2017 cut “Hit the Ground Running”. Her 2019 debut album, Mint, built on those successes, with razor-sharp riffs bolstering her strong alto on the spiky “Lash Out” and the bubbly “Funny Business”. On Merton’s second album, S.I.D.E.S., she expanded her rhythm-forward sound on cuts like the glam-tinged “Vertigo” and the galloping “Same Team”.
