Aesop Rock has been one of indie rap's most unmistakable and reliable voices ever since the release of his second album, 2000's Float. Though his style and outlook shifted subtly over the years, the one constant is his nimble flow and seemingly opaque lyrics that reveal deeper meanings over repeated listens. Not so much a straightforward storyteller as he is a scene-setter, Aesop has a poet's eye for detail. The New York-born rapper/producer also rocks some of the densest, hardest-hitting underground hip-hop beats, often sourced from longtime production partner Blockhead.
