With his soul-stirring vocals and virtuosic melodies, singer-songwriter and oudist Abade Al Johar has opened new horizons in Khaleeji music. As a rising talent in the ’60s, he was spotted by fellow Saudi great Talal Maddah. The prolific artist has since released dozens of popular recordings—including classic “Galo Tara”, a haunting confessional about unrequited love—and composed for major Arabic music stars. Whether he performs stripped-back, oud-driven compositions, embraces Western elements or weaves through lush, string-laden arrangements, Al Johar goes straight for the music’s heart.
