About Unlike Pluto

DJ, producer and songwriter Unlike Pluto folds jazz, rock and soul into his electronic music. He’s also one-half of the duo Why Mona, known for their smoldering covers of pop classics. • Unlike Pluto is the alias of Atlanta native Armond Arabshahi. Growing up, he played guitar, drums and piano and performed in emo bands. • While studying microbiology at Georgia’s Emory University, Arabshahi began creating electronic music. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue music in 2013. • His 2014 remix of Diplo’s “Revolution” earned millions of streams. • Unlike Pluto’s 2017’s song “Worst in Me”, inspired by the ’90s teen comedy 10 Things I Hate About You, has racked up more than 50 million streams. • “Everything Black,” his 2017 collaboratoin with Mike Taylor, has amassed hundreds of millions of streams across platforms. • In 2017, Arabashahi partnered with Hamilton actress and singer Joanna Jones to form the group Why Mona. Fusing rock, jazz and EDM, Why Mona found success with a 2017 cover of TLC’s “No Scrubs” and a 2019 remake of Spice Girls’ “Wannabe”. • Due to his desire to make more experimental music, Unlike Pluto challenged himself in 2018 to release a song a week. He later collected these tracks on his 2019 Pluto Tapes series.
