The Jim Cullum Jazz Band

About The Jim Cullum Jazz Band

b. 20 September 1941, San Antonio, Texas, USA. Although little known outside his home state for many years, cornetist Cullum has played an important part in preserving interest in traditional jazz in America. He first played in a band led by his namesake father, later taking over leadership and running both the family recording company and a jazz room at San Antonio’s Landing Hotel. Visiting guest musicians or resident old-timers such as Ernie Caceres always fitted in well with the band’s style. Cullum’s records show his band to be a lively, entertaining group with good solos and a tight ensemble sound - what they lack in profundity they certainly make up in spirit.
