Neither post rock, math rock, or shoegaze, Brooklyn trio the Big Sleep plays a meditative style of heavy guitar rock that touches on elements of all those genres. Bassist/vocalist Sonya Balchandani, guitarist Danny Barria, and drummer Gabe Rhodes have a veteran band’s sense of dynamic tension; their hypnotic, immersive live shows have made them a favorite at festivals like South by Southwest. Though primarily instrumental, their second album, SLEEP FOREVER, created a sonic underlay for Balchandani’s understated vocals without sacrificing the trio’s muscle.
