About Stock Aitken Waterman

Modeling themselves on Motown Records, Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, and Pete Waterman were the most successful team of U.K. writer/producers during the 80s. Their first hits came with Divine’s "You Think You’re a Man" in July 1984, and Dead or Alive’s chart-topping "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" in March 1985. Further U.K. chart-toppers followed in 1987, with "Respectable" by Mel & Kim, and Rick Astley’s "Never Gonna Give You Up." In the same year they released a dance single under their own names, "Roadblock," which reached number 13 on the U.K. charts. They subsequently launched their PWL label, scoring hit after hit with Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Sonia, Brother Beyond, and Big Fun. But by 1991, both Astley and Jason Donovan had departed, and the partnership was sundered by Matt Aitken’s departure.
