About Shreyas Puranik
Nagpur-raised, Mumbai-based singer-composer Shreyas Puranik creates music that draws from devotional bhajans, Marathi folk music as well as whimsical love ballads, making him a one-stop shop for Bollywood auteurs like Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Puranik began singing when he was three years old and had his first lesson by Nagpur’s Futala Lake. Having found his calling, he eventually moved to Mumbai to forge a career in the film music industry. His breakthrough came in 2019 with the EDM/rap Marathi song “Aila Re” for Malaal, sung by Puranik and Vishal Dadlani and composed with Bhansali. The film’s soundtrack also featured “Nadh Khula”, a showcase for Puranik’s more tender side. For the period drama Bajirao Mastani, Puranik composed fervent devotional song “Gajanana” and assisted Bhansali for “Aaj Ibaadat”. Motivated by Bhansali and others explore different genres, Puranik has branched out into everything from spiritual songs to wedding celebrations, working with the likes of Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and more. And with 2023’s ANIMAL, Puranik scored his biggest hit yet as a composer: “Satranga”, sung by Arijit Singh, which was also released in Telugu as “Ney Veyrey”.
